Let's take a simple finite decimal, say 1 divided by 16 or 0.0625.

If I gave you everything except the 5, there's no information to let you guess whether that last digit is a 5 or some other digit. You would need to know the currently value of my remainder when I calclulated the 2 and the divisor that I'm using to generate this number. Without that information, you can't know that the next number is a 5, nor can you know that the 5 is the final number. The same applies to the transcendentals. You need to know the calcluating Turing machine and its current state in order to get the next digit. Simply having the output is not enough information to calculate the state of the system.

From inside the system, you're still not able to tell whether this is a true random stream or just a very long semi-random string that the aliens are feeding you. Assuming you believe there is a "you" at all. 🙂

I understand fully what you are saying, I've often had that feeling, that I'm not really in the real world, that I'm in some kind of computer simulation (I've had this suspicion before "The Matrix" even came along). Here's something that will really make your head spin...using digits of Pi as a random number isn't random at all. For instance if you're counting on your random sequence generator for purposes of encryption, it wouldn't be very secure at all if someone figured out the basis.

I like your little journal. I think I'm going to pull up a chair for a spell 🙂
